Basics:
Full name: Leonardo Romano De Luca
Goes by: Leo
Age: 29
Birthday: 1st June
Nationality: Italian
Race: Lycan
Occupation: Freelance artist, specializing in painting and portraits. He also helps to train hearing dogs for the deaf
Languages: Italian, English (fluent), SIL (fluent), ASL (learning)
Eyes: Hazel gold
Hair: Dark Brown
Noticeable features:
- Freckles. Freckles for days.
- Leo has very long hair, which he can braid in what is probably not record time, but he likes to think so regardless.
- He is a wheelchair user
Other stuff:
- Leo is intolerant or allergic to a long list of food items; something he's inherited from a couple of family members, or so the family in-joke goes.
- He has pretty much entirely lost his hearing; he began noticing it when he was 15 and it's gradually just gotten worse, especially over the last couple of years. He has very limited hearing at this point, but if you can somehow lower your voice and yell at the same time you might manage to get his attention.
He is oral, and can read lips very well, as well as being proficient in SIL (Italian Sign Language)
- Due to complications in utero and during delivery, Leo doesn't have the use of his legs - which ordinarily wouldn't be the end of the world. One of the pros of being what he is is accelerated healing, but in Leo's case that's backfired. His body is continually trying to heal the damage to his spinal chord and nerves, wrongly perceiving it as an injury, meaning that not only is his metabolism totally screwed from having to keep fuelling his ability to heal, but also that he's usually in pain, or at the very least, in a lot of discomfort.
Healing wounds and broken bones at twice or even three times the normal rate is not the most comfortable sensation on the planet; Leo's body is attempting to heal what it believes to be a very serious injury 24/7.
The way he gets around this issue is with very strategic uses of silver. Silver inhibits Lycan's accelerated abilities to heal and basically knocks their ability down to that of a regular human for a few hours or even a day or two. By using silver in this way, Leo gives his healing factor time to chill out and take a break, and therefore give him a day or two of lessened pain from his own body's attempts to heal. The only drawback here of course being that silver sucks for Lycans, and administering it to himself is incredibly painful in of itself.
Personality;
- Adaptable and proactive: The second you tell Leo he can't do something because of x, y, z, eight times out of ten he'll find a way to do that thing and modify the space around him to allow him to do so. Or if he really can't do something, he'll find a way to compromise and achieve his goal. He does everything he can to not let himself give up too easily, because he knows it's a slippery slope into just not bothering at all, especially on bad days.
- Loyal: Once he considers you a friend, you may as well be a member of his family and he'd do anything for you.
- Imaginative and playful: Ever since he was little, Leo's been incredibly imaginative and creative, which bled over easily into his love of art and the arts in general.
- Bad temper: Despite making every effort to not have it show, on bad pain days Leo can have a very short fuse, and has been known to snap at the people around him and become annoyed easily. He will always hold his hands up and apologise afterwards, and this is really the only time his temper flares, but it's not a side of himself he likes people seeing much.
- He can be incredibly stubborn; a trait that, surprisingly doesn't clash much with his ability to listen and consider other points of view.
Brief background & Family info:
- Born in Tuscany, Leo was raised in a family of werewolves. Growing up with his parents and alongside his two older brothers Federico and Matteo, Leo was always the baby of the family, constantly being spoiled and always being able to practically get away with murder. He had a happy childhood, learning to adapt and finding new ways to do things and stay involved with whatever trouble his brothers were getting themselves into.
- When he was around twelve years old, his healing ability really kicked into high gear, bringing about the beginning of his battle with chronic pain. Leo learned very quickly after that how easy it is to let it get the better of you, and in the couple of years following, he had to dig himself out of a figurative pit. It was also around this time that the family packed up and moved to Florence, which is where Leo stayed until he'd graduated high school.
- Upon gaining acceptance to the University of Fine Arts in Rome, Leo experienced his first real taste of independence away from home. And once he'd completed his degree, he eventually found himself stateside. Maybe it was the allure of the American dream or just the really stellar healthcare system, but he became rather fond of the US of A and has remained ever since in San Francisco.
Interests, hobbies:
- Painting, sketching, drawing with charcoal and chalk. If you catch him when he's at home, he;s probably got one of those materials on his face and/or hands.
- Sculpting and clay work; I don't know what to tell you man, he loves making and creating things. And getting messy. A good combination of both.
- Cooking; with his dietary requirements (and the fact that he's a vegan, because fuck it, he might as well be with how much he can't eat anyway) it's usually just easier for him to make food from scratch than going out and hoping for the best. Lucky for him, he's rather good at it.
- Singing, or rather, it used to be. While Leo is a talented singer and is very musically inclined, his confidence in his ability to do so has faded as fast as his hearing. And so nowadays, if he ever still does, it's never around other people.
- Acting: Leo's very comfortable on stage and in front of people, and has always found drama and acting immensely enjoyable. He doesn't get the chance to do it much, but he's literally the best person to have on your team during charades.
